Art is in I the eye of the beholder. What one person likes ,another person will detest. This is the same for what makes a good picture . So far I have learnt that anyone can buy a photo and have it enlarged but a picture should be something that is a little bit of the soul of the artist showing through. A glimpse of how that person perceives what they are seeing . If the artist is colour blind then they will actually see colours in a totally different way to what a normally vissioned person would .A view of the world from a chid’s point of view will differ from how an elderly person sees things .So in answering my own question “What makes a great picture?” the answer is probably ,its in the eye of the beholder.
